Authorities in the Cayman Islands have arrested model Gigi Hadid for alleged marijuana possession.
Model Gigi Hadid was arrested last week in the Cayman Islands for alleged marijuana possession, authorities reported. Hadid, legally known as Jelena Noura Hadid, and her friend, influencer Leah Nicole McCarthy, were taken into custody on July 10th on charges of importing marijuana and related paraphernalia, according to the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control.
The pair, who arrived in the Cayman Islands from the United States on a private plane, were arrested after a search of their luggage revealed a small quantity of marijuana, the border authorities said.
A representative for Hadid confirmed to CBS News that the 28-year-old model was traveling with marijuana bought legally in New York City with a medical license. “It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017,” the representative stated. “Her record remains clear, and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island.”
According to local news outlet Cayman Marl Road, the arrest took place at Owen Roberts International Airport, and both women were released on bail. Both women pleaded guilty and were fined approximately $1,200. However, no conviction was recorded, said border authorities.
In the week following the arrest, Hadid posted several photos on Instagram showing her enjoying a beach and the ocean. She captioned a photo posted on Tuesday, saying, “All’s well that ends well.”
